Kai Lightner Climbing in Jamaica in New Film JamRock
The new film JamRock follows Kai Lightner, a 12-time national champion and 5.15 climber, as he travels and climbs around Jamaica. In 2023, Lightner has made the first ascent of If You’re Tall as the country’s hardest sport climb at 5.13c.
A press release for JamRock reads, Driven by a profound sense of purpose, Kai sets his sights on an ambitious goal: establishing a cutting-edge rock climbing gym within the iconic National Stadium of Jamaica. Through his unwavering dedication and the support of local climbers, he endeavours to create not just a facility, but a symbol of empowerment and opportunity for the Jamaican community.
JamRock celebrates the spirit of unity and perseverance as Lightner and his team navigate obstacles, forge connections, and ultimately inspire a nation to reach new heights, both on and off the climbing wall. With breathtaking landscapes, stirring personal narratives, and the universal language of sport, the film is a testament to the transformative power of passion, community, and the pursuit of one’s dreams.
There are several crags around the small Caribbean island of Jamaica that are currently under development. Jam Rock Climbing helps raise money for route development and community awareness. Learn more about them here and follow them on Instagram below.
