Kristin Harila Climbs Nuptse in 2026 “Triple Crown” push
Norwegian mountaineer Kristin Harila has reached the summit of Nuptse as part of her attempt to complete the Himalayan “Triple Crown” during the spring climbing season. The challenge involves climbing Mount Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse in a single expedition campaign.
Harila reached the 7,861-metre summit of Nuptse on Sunday, becoming one of the first confirmed climbers to summit this year. The ascent was confirmed by Nepal tourism officials stationed at Everest Base Camp. Nuptse shares the same climbing corridor used by Everest expeditions, including the approach through the Khumbu Icefall.
In 2023, Harila and the late Tenjen Lama Sherpa climbed all 14 mountains above 8,000 metres in just 92 days, setting a world speed record. During the same season, Harila also set a speed record between Everest and Lhotse, completing both summits in less than eight hours.
While Everest and Lhotse are climbed regularly each spring, Nuptse is considered more technical and is attempted by far fewer climbers. According to Nepal’s Department of Tourism, dozens of climbers have received permits for Nuptse during the 2026 season. Harila climbed the peak with Mingtemba Sherpa as part of an expedition managed by Seven Summit Treks.
Harila has also spoken publicly about returning to the Himalayas in memory of Tenjen Lama Sherpa, her former climbing partner who disappeared in an avalanche on Shishapangma in 2023. Her 2026 season now continues with planned summit pushes on Everest and Lhotse as she pursues completion of the Triple Crown.
