Sungsu Lee Sends The Singularity V15 in Squamish
South Korean climber Sungsu Lee recently topped The Singularity V15 (8C) in Squamish. The historic line is one of Canada’s hardest. While in Squamish, Lee also redpointed Chris Sharma’s Dreamcatcher 5.14d, Canada’s most famous sport route, found just above The Singularity.
Established by Tim Clifford in 2007 and originally graded V14, subsequent ascensionists have started The Singularity from a lower hold, upping the difficulty. Nalle Hukkataival made the second ascent ten years later in 2017. Since then, it’s been topped by many climbers, including Lucas Uchida, Ethan Salvo, Andy Lamb, Hamish McArthur, Zach Galla, Toshi Takeuchi, Danny Popowski, Bruce Zou, and Aidan Roberts.
Earlier this year, Lee repeated Shawn Raboutou’s Alphane V17 in Chironico, Switzerland. Last year in May, he climbed his first of the grade, Burden of Dreams, in Lappnor, Finland. Because he had a small dab on his first send, he went back and re-sent the problem. Lee sent three V16s in 2025 – Grand Illusion and Sosa at Little Cottonwood Canyon, Utah, and The Story of 2 Worlds in Ticino, Switzerland.
In 2024, Lee topped many V15s. In April, he climbed Tokio Muroi’s Asagimadara in Mizugaki, Japan. He had a successful trip to Rocklands in the summer, sending Monkey Wedding, Spray of Light, The Smile, and Nalle Hukkataival’s stunning highball, Finnish Line. On a visit to the Buttermilks, he sent Paul Robinson’s Lucid Dreaming. Lee has climbed up to 5.15a on a rope and has competed in many Lead and Boulder World Cups for the South Korean team.
