Stefano Ghisolfi Climbs New V15 in Switzerland
Stefano Ghisolfi continues his send streak with the first ascent of P.I.G. at Gotthard Pass, Switzerland, at V15. In spring, he climbed his 12th 5.15b (9b) with a send of Ratstaman Vibrations in Céüse, a route first climbed by Alex Megos.
Ghisolfi said the route came together through a natural progression of linking existing climbs. He first began trying Quiet Storm V14, a route by Francesco Berardino, before climbing a V11 to its left. “It seemed logical to connect the two,” he explained, creating a long traverse that starts on the left-hand before joining Quiet Storm, and finishes via another V11, Rosa Maialino, on the right. A well-timed kneebar rest before the final section makes the ambitious link-up possible. “It is a long traverse, so it fit my style well, and [it’s] very fun,” Ghisolfi said.
The route’s name traces back to its final section, Rosa Maialino, which translates to “pink pig.” Ghisolfi said the project was initially known simply as “project pig” during its development. Once the line was completed, the name evolved into Pig, a nod to the climb’s origins.”
Ghisolfi has been on a sending spree this year with several hard boulder repeats, including Gioia V16, Dreamtime V15, Story of Two Worlds V15, and Big Illusion V15.
