Delaney Miller Climbing Fat Camp, a 5.14d in Colorado

Nearly a year ago, Delaney Miller climbed Fat Camp, a steep 5.14d in the Wicked Cave of Rifle, Colorado, for her first of the grade. A new video featuring her send was just released on Mellow – watch below.

Miller, a decorated competition climber who competed at several World Cups, told 8a.nu this after her send: “I put a lot of work into training for this route. None of the moves are particularly hard, but it’s a very sustained route, with long sections of punchy, difficult climbing. The last boulder in particular gave me quite a bit of trouble. I fell at the top eight times before punching through. Took quite a bit more effort than The Crew 5.14c.”

Fat Camp was bolted by Joe Kinder and first climbed by Jon Cardwell in 2016, with Cardwell noting, “Classic and hard test-piece for Rifle climbers.” Several others have climbed it, including Jonathan Siegrist and Daniel Woods.

The Wicked Cave is a must-visit crag for climbers who love the overhangs. While there are several hard routes, including Fat Camp and Bad Girls Club 5.14c/d, there are also more moderate hard climbs, like Sexy Beast 5.12c and Diety 5.13a.
