Rell Lennox Rope-Solos The Nose on El Cap
Rell Lennox, 20, has rope-soloed The Nose on El Capitan during what’s turned out to be a busy few weeks in Yosemite. As Lennox points out, she’s the youngest female to rope-solo El Capitan to date.
After her send, Lennox wrote on Instagram, “My biggest takeaway is how proud I am of all the fem/them people who climb alone, especially those who have solo ascents of El Cap. Watching friends over the last year solo walls has always inspired me, but after experiencing this style of climbing myself I feel I look up to all of my friends who embark on these adventures so much more.” Be sure to follow her below for more climbing.
Lennox joins a list of strong female climbers who have rope-soloed The Nose, including Soline Kentze who did it this spring. In 2016, Miranda Oakley soloed The Nose in a day (NIAD), at 21 hours and 50 minutes. In 2014, Chantel Astorga did it in 24 hours and 39 minutes.
The first rope-solo of The Nose was made by Tom Bauman in 1969. The first rope-solo NIAD was in 1989 by Steve “Shipoopi” Schneider in 21:22. In 1999, Dean Potter did it in 12 hours and 59 minutes. Hans Florine then did it in 11 hours and 41 minutes. Alex Honnold then did it in 5 hours 50 minutes. In fall 2023, Nick Ehman set a new record at 4 hours and 39 minutes.
