Comp-Style Move in New V16 from Will Bosi

On January 5, Will Bosi made the first ascent of Pôr do Sol V16 (8C+) in Sintra, Portugal. It is a very beautiful bloc, characterized by rounded protrusions on rock that looks full of friction. The problem ascends a massive boulder and features a comp-style double clutch, where Bosi begins with his hands crossed, then fires with his right hand while simultaneously repositioning his left. New footage of his ascent has been released and can be found below.

“This boulder has to be one of my top three all-time favourites,” said Bosi in a press release. “Firstly, the boulder looks so big and blank. The fact that there is just the perfect amount of features to make it work is really surprising.

“Then, the sequence is just insane… lots of unique moves leading to the crazy ‘comp-style’ double clutch crux move. The only downside was how sharp the holds are, which meant my sessions all had to be quite short. Every session trying this bloc, along with my good friend Chris, was incredibly enjoyable and really memorable.

“Grading is always hard, but this line felt considerably harder than any of the other lines I’ve done in Portugal or of similar style lines elsewhere. So [V16] seems right to me. However, the unique style of moves and low angle definitely makes it hard to grade this one!”

With a proposed grade of V16, Pôr do Sol is now the hardest boulder in Portugal. V15s have been proposed in the past, including Bosi’s first ascent of El Dorado Sit V15, which he established in March 2025. But Pôr do Sol is the first of the grade in Portugal. In addition to his V16 FA, Bosi established T-Rex V14 and The Navigator V14, which was a flash. He also put up two V13s: Tornado and Relampato.
